Old friend - New friend

I didn't realise when I made the trip to Brisbane quite the experience I was going to share with one of my oldest, bestest friends and another with almost a complete stranger. This talented stranger turned out to me the amazing Abby Skye - an absolute gifted singer and songwriter, a beautiful beautiful girl. We all spent around 4 hours together having dinner and instantly we connected over some pretty amazing conversations. Everything from there just got easier and more interesting as we continued some more of our chats through the camera the following day.

I learnt a lot from Abby and what was interesting for me as the documentor, is by letting go of some of my own hang-ups really allowed me to see things I ordinarily would have missed. And...... a thank-you to my dearest and greatest bestie Glen for bringing this together. A wonderful friend with a wonderful heart xx

It seems my shiny new BLOG will be just a little way off. So without further ado....I bring Karina & Chris and their cool gang. Such beautiful people with 2 very lovely families that I had the pleasure to chat with.

We had some adventures after I found a random location on the side of a road somewhere that involved dodging rabbits (and maybe snakes) but jumping over a bit of a creek (come swamp) as well!! Thanks everyone for thinking this idea was kinda cool at the time!

Can't really believe the month that has been October. 9 weddings this month and each one has literally floored me with laughter and some of the most emotional experiences to date.

I have been challenged in ways I thought not possible but the rewards have been off the charts. "working" very long hours is the new norm and will continue well into 2011. Strangely....it's ok because I have the most incredible little team around me that keep everything ticking along. Pete, Heather, Nat and Philly Will, you are all ridiculously talented and all great friends - thank you!!!!

Saying goodbye

Quite a mixed up day of happy news and very very sad news.......Last night I learnt that my one and only photography mentor/teacher and my very first employer of 9 years is terminally ill and dying of cancer.

Known as Norm to me, David Coward was one of the most successful photographer’s in Canberra for at least a 30-year span. I started working for him when I was just 17. Norm supported me through my photography studies, taught me all there was to know in photography and took me under his wing. I learnt everything from the ground up and spent a many a day working in his darkroom where I’m sure I annoyed him with my many questions.

Norm and his lovely wife Bev, became family to me....He is why I am here today and all my success is really because of this man. He got me through 3 long years of study, told me I could get through it, told me to hang there when I doubted my ability and lacked confidence.

So....early tomorrow morning I will be on a plane to fly to him and say my goodbyes. 17 years worth of memories and history – how will I possibly summarise this in a tearful goodbye??

I was hoping to squeeze one more wedding in before going all "new" on the blog.

I photographed Maria & Johnny recently and so many waves of emotion surrounding this day. Many many happy tears were shared but that moment where Johnny walked along the red carpet to meet Maria half way before they got married.....had me hiding behind my camera!

Two of nicest, warmest, most loveliest people are Maria & Johnny. It was an absolute pleasure to be there and experience both their beautiful families coming together.

I think the older I get, the more weddings I photograph, the softer I get...okay so at times a crying mess! These two did it for me and not just once but 3 times!! See these moments at the church?? Well there was like a hundred of them - I say no more :)

So Canberra displayed it's first weekend of blossoms - a little hard to find because it was still soooo cold but they were out there!! We ended up letting the light do the talking and decided to stay in one spot...

Such a beautiful couple to photograph, made all this stuff look so easy and effortless!!!

You could call these guys season pro's I think. 2 massive shoots in just 2 weeks but this one certainly topped the pops!! I can't quite believe what we crammed into just a few hours - several locations and even a bridge collapse diversion. This day seriously had it all!!!

New Queensberry Albums are in town

This excitement needed a whole blog post of it's own!

Last week arrived the new little (or should we say BIG) addition to the Kelly Tunney studio. I gave Heather, our brilliant album designer the honours of opening up this exciting package.

We were just blown away by the craftsmanship and quality of this album - it really is like nothing I have ever seen before. Just 30 pages of beautiful stories finished off in a neat little package!!

Emma & Nathan provided us with lots of entertainment and a fair share of laughs during the shoot making everything soooo easy and effortless to photograph. For a Canberra winter day we got lucky we only a few short cold moments but mostly fine and around 13 degrees (heatwave for July)!!

I have said all this before BUT I need another little rant of gratitude and nice things to say to a few people with this post of plenty!!!

This really was the wedding of a lifetime to photograph and I am totally lost for words when I try to explain just what an incredible experience this was....... Everything exceeded my very high expectations from the moment we landed in London and meet Alice & Ed for the first time.

Both Pete and I were welcomed with open arms by this amazing couple and every single member of their family. We felt so involved and so appreciated every single day. Then came GAME DAY...the wedding...and WOW, we were just floored by everything we were there to capture. 15 hours felt a little like 15 minutes in Chelsea - everything and everyone just rocked my world. Aside from Pete and I pinching each other every 5 minutes, we also had time to stop and sit back to enjoy the moments and watch the day unfold. INCREDIBLE is not enough, RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING is not enough - NOTHING can ever describe that moment, absolute pure JOY and EUPHORIA

Has to be said....To one of my fave people on this earth, Pete. I had the pleasure of having Pete travel over with me to assist and shoot as well. Without him and his calming ways (yes I was nervous) half of what you see here could not have been possible without his help.

First cut to make the blog was around 137 images so this will have to be the first installment of many more posts about this wedding (when I get back to OZ land)

I could write pages and pages about this once in a lifetime experience. The stories, the history, the locations, but best of all – meeting and working with such a special group of people. They are what made this amazing and I can’t thank everyone enough for making this trip one of the best things that have ever happened to me. I know I’ll be back here to visit and shoot more weddings – can I come next week???

More to come shortly – just have to get through this next 24 or so hours of plane pain!!!!!

What an absolute privilege to experience this wedding........it was challenging, it was hectic but absolutely life changing for all the right reasons. Happy doesn’t seem enough right now – I still have no words to describe.

In just 2 days of arriving I could probably write a novel, so much has happened.... After a few small hiccups on arrival we made it safe and sound to Alice & Ed's beautiful flat in London and was greeted with some lovely champagne to celebrate! It was so great to finally meet them, everything just connected so perfectly between us we couldn't help but pinch ourselves that this day had finally arrived!

Day 2 was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Ed came to pick us up in the afternoon to take us out to Chelsea for the big grand tour, some shooting and the wedding rehearsal. It was an opportunity to meet everyone, the whole bridal party, Ed's family and Alice's family too. Amazingly enough Alice's dad, Lord Michael Walker is the Governor of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea where the ceremony & reception will be held - Alice's parents also reside there.

When we arrived the whole grounds were preparing for a visit from the French President, Sarkozy. Everything was fairly hectic, there were hundreds and hundreds of military running drills in every corner of the Hospital. Media were everywhere and stages being set up left right and centre! While Pete and I walked around with our jaw dropped to the ground, everyone around us tended to take it all in their stride. I have never meet such a relaxed chilled out family - instantly we were made to feel so comfortable and welcome in their home. It was a little hard to not feel overwhelmed by the hospitality and generosity I experienced yesterday.

You can see by some of the images below the beautiful locations I will be shooting tomorrow, absolutely breathtaking would be the understatement of the century. But...I am totally ready and totally jumping out of my skin to get there tomorrow. There really are no words left to explain what an opportunity and great honour it is to be here - I am cherishing every single minute of this time right now!

The Dubai trip - June 2010

Our Dubai experience was short but crazy fun!! We landed around 2:30pm in the afternoon and it was already 42 degrees. After a long 14 hour flight we checked into our hotel and had a quick rest before braving the Dubai Souks at night. It was still around 38 degrees at 9pm and deciding to walk through the markets was probably not the best idea come to think about it. We were definitely the only tourists within a 100km radius and we kinda stood out. Within about 100 metres I could have tried a camel burger and bought about 20 fake LV handbags - it had it all!!

Our second day was a little more low-key with hours of shopping time in Dubai Mall - what an experience that was. Everything you could possibly imagine under one roof. In the afternoon we got a taste of the incredible 7 star hotel - Burj Al Aarb, had a fancy drink and something to eat on the beach near-by and even tried some traditional Shisha (fancy pipe smoking). The day has finally come to say goodbye.....for 3 weeks anyway!! In about 6 hours or so Pete and I will be heading to Sydney International airport for a photographic trip of a lifetime. 3 wonderful days exploring Dubai before heading to London town for the absolute wedding shoot of a lifetime in beautiful Chelsea.

I've just said goodbye to my family so things have really start to hit home now, many tears, sick feelings in my stomach but most of all HUGE amounts of excitement!!

Things may be running a little slow while I'm away but the lovely Heather will be on board to answer e-mails and calls so please be nice to her. FAREWELL FRIENDS, I'll keep you updated.

Mega super squash players Carly & Paul were a bit fun to photograph!! When I asked Paul how often he plays...um, maybe 5 or 6 times are a week!!! Far out, you must be alright I said...um, you think???

It was an amazing Autumn day in Canberra, a little fresh but plenty of sunshine still around to keep us semi-warm!!

These guys were awesome to photograph, so awesome they didn't want to give me back my $2 vintage squash racquets from REVOLVE - ha!!!

Not that I have been counting for the past 6 months but we are finally down to the wire now!!!!

My trusty right hand genius, Pete and I will be flying out of Sydney in exactly 2 weeks to photograph a rather spectacular wedding in Chelsea, London.

I am yet to meet the fabulous couple, Alice & Ed but already I love them and can't wait to see how they put together this amazing wedding.....think 1682, think King Charles 11 and think - how is Kelly going to survive so many photo opportunities!!!!!!

I can’t speak enough of these two, I love them I love them I love them.

We all meet back in the day of 2008 when Liam and Vee booked me for their wedding, a wedding I knew I desperately wanted to do. We did the couple shoot, we hung out and chatted & laughed. These two then became mates as we discussed our ideas of typewriters, bikes, woods and industrial factories, nothing seemed impossible but we knew it would be different & fun!!

This is what I LOVE... an honest, real connection with people who love this stuff as much as I do. It really doesn’t get any better than that people!!! Liam & VeeVee you are truly wonderful!

I know this comes very late...have been sooo sick with the flu and a very foggy head - BUT the fog has lifted and I'm on another roll with some bloggertime!

Pip & Will were another of my clever little couples - can I say I love them too??? We did a couple shoot together only a few months before the wedding so we had already set a pretty high standard. I'm thinking we reached and exceeding everything we had hoped. So comfortable with me and in-front of camera made for a very fun day!

There were so many great things incorporated into the wedding - they made their own ice cream, awesome details in the service booklets, music choices and SOOOO much more xx

Pip so very kindly allowed me to share some of her words here.....

I know you must hear stuff like this all the time but... WOW!

You captured so many cool moments - Will hugging his Dad, Will sticking his finger up when I went to put on the ring (I didn't even realise he did this at the time!), the moment when Will's little cousin let out a scream in the family photo, Edith bracing me as Rach did my dress up, waiting out the front of the hotel while the car was stuck in the basement... I love how none of these were really posed and they just came out looking amazing!!

We are seriously thrilled - the photos totally reflect how we felt on the day (which is good because it was pretty much the best day ever!).

I reckon I love these two. Everything about them and their wedding made my insides excitable from DAY ONE. And the closer we got to the actual wedding the more excited we all got for the shoot.

A super marathon post coming at ya - but look at these guys, how could I not? So it's 1:45am and I couldn't be more awake working on these images from Brodes & Andy's SUPER SURPRISE wedding!

I had the difficult task of keeping this one quiet for around 8 months...and difficult it was, especially when I knew so many people at this wedding!!! Well the good news was, it came off a treat and was a completely amazing day with plenty of laughs and tears.

I loved every bit of being involved in this one and just LOVE the images we captured all together. Special thanks to young Hales for being the super cool second shooter too xx

What a wedding, what a dress and what a sweet little couple! These two were a real hit to photograph - every single detail of this wedding was sheer perfection, right from the perfect colour scheme for Mel's accessories in the Hotel room (Heather and I were so damn excited when we got there)!!

We also got to experience the party side of the day @ the Boat House to capture some hilarious dancing and good times - man there were some serious grovers! All in all, an awesome day with two VERY awesome people!!!!

Amanda & David celebrated their wedding ceremony mid week in front of their closest family and friends. It was a 9pm ceremony in a very remote part of Canberra. Most of these shots were captured at 8000ISO or more which is just amazing to think just how dark it was on that night!!!

We had a bit of fun finding our way through the dark, Manda & Dave were up for just about anything. My fellow photog buddy Christine helped me out - thanks Chris for braving the elements of cold weather, rain and a somewhat scary cemetery!!!!!!

A very long time coming...is the lovely Cate & Rohan, 2 of the greatest people I have ever photographed!!!

More rain.....which didn't change our crazy plans. I had been admiring an old Canberra building for at least 12 months, always wanted to take a bride & groom there. Then it finally happened that's to Facebook (didn't know anyone that lived there)- Cate & Rohan were up for the challenge in the rain, so that's what we did. Heather and I stood in the pouring rain on Northbourne Ave to get the first shot, and I just love it. Also did okay at the recent AIPP awards, scoring a 89.

Okay, so some of you may have noticed the BLOG looking a bit bare lately.....I know, very sad and I’m very sorry for neglecting my trust-worthy BLOG for this long.

The reason is, we have been going crazy on some new stuff and basically have been working around the clock, kinda like 90-100 hour weeks to get through everything. It’s been hard work but a whole lot of fun too thanks to some pretty awesome people that I have worked with.

So I managed to get a couple of posts up tonight but I have 8 more weddings to go......They are a comin’ @ you real soon I promise. I have plenty of other things to share including some news on my recent mentor sessions I have been running, some success at AIPP awards and finally the major countdown and prep for the London wedding I will be photographing in Chelsea for the clever and talented Alice & Ed – already less than 2 months away!!!

It was a crazy day with the weather again....heavy rain, heavy sun and all in about 20 minutes. This allowed not only a very beautiful Jewish outdoor ceremony for Anna & Richard at OPH gardens but we were able to explore Canberra the way we intended.

Another great bridal party to hang out with - I'm sure all of you enjoyed my efforts of walking backwards into a very deep muddy hole (knee height infact) my shoes are still smelly!!

I have had the great pleasure of getting to know Victoria over the last year through Fiona & Sam(http://blog.kellytunney.com.au/2009/04/fiona-sam-friday-3-april-2009.html) one of my past couples and also through my on-going relationship with Hotel Realm.

It was another great group of people to hang out with on a Saturday afternoon - yes there was a little rain, BUT......never let that get in your road of some really good photography.

Hotel Realm provided the perfect indoor backdrop for this kind of day...still is one of the best place to shoot - love it!!!

Now this was a fun wedding!! Jenny & Akira live only 4 doors down from me so I've got to know them well since their booking in 2009.

When Katie and I walked in to see Jenny for the first time we were totally blown away by her and her magnificent dress.....so so breathtakingly beautiful I didn't know where to start!!

The emotion of the day was very apparent as soon as we started, making these moments extra special to be a part of. Yet we still had a great amount of energy between these guys and their bridal party. The photo shoot absolutely flew between locations with so much fun to be had (thanks Karen)!!

This has to be one of the most exciting crazy unexpected weddings I have ever had the pleasure to photograph!!

Sandra & John are two of the most unique and generous people I have ever known. Their wedding was full of unexpected surprises making my involvement sooooo exciting right from the beginning.

We experienced so much in emotion between these two and their families...not to mention the fun side of things as well - A pink stretch hummer, a Bentley from the boys, Balloons, Hubba Bubba, Train yards and a random couch on the side of the road.

Last week I had the very great pleasure of co-hosting the lovely Liana here in my studio for a super intensive business boot-camp http://bananasedu.com/photo-biz-boot-camp/. I think no matter what stage you're at in your photography business you can always learn something from attending one of these workshops!

We had 12 amazing people here for 2 days which ended with a wedding shoot with one of my most favourite couples - the lovely Nat & Victor (http://blog.kellytunney.com.au/2009/11/natalie-victor-1-november-2009.html) Thanks guys for being so wonderful and accommodating.

The biggest surprise packet of the year.....what a beautiful wedding guys - you had me so emotional!!!

I loved every aspect of what we covered for Liz & Joel. 2 gorgeous people VERY much in love with 2 gorgeous families all coming together for an incredible day.

sorry - another late blog post, I promise I'm catching up!!!!

Lisa & Alex travelled far to have their wedding here in Canberra but they must have brought the hot weather with them....woo, it was a hot one!!

Lisa's niece and nephew were a very cute and welcoming addition to our photo shoot for the afternoon - even after getting around a few different locations on the day we still had happy smiling (sweaty faces)!

I am finally catching up on all these blog posts. I don't really know what's been happening in the last 3 weeks but everything is a little out of control - including me a little!!!!!

The ever so lovely Amanda & Justin were just the sweetest things yet. Infectious happiness and laughter always around these two. We had a short morning wedding and adjusting to the sun being in the WRONG place was just hilarious!!

We were extremely lucky to photograph where we did so a big shout out to those that made this happen.....here's hoping I can come back, thank you!

I know I'm a little late!!!! But here is Bec & Matt - yet another beautiful wedding. I was lucky enough to have Steven along shooting with me making it an extra funny shoot.

It was nice and warm out there so shade was a must and a bit of AC was a bonus!! Thanks guys for being so relaxed and a lot of fun to be around. Hope you enjoyed some time in Australia this time around and can't wait to see you both soon :)

Emily & Trent were our first wedding to kick off 2010. It was great, such a relaxed couple and fun to be around. The day wasn't too hot so we were able to explore a few different locations - not to mention chasing the crazy clouds and storms around Stromlo!! We were quite lucky actually to escape all the lightning up there.

No doubt you are both back in London safe and sound in the snow!! Can't wait to show off the rest very soon :)
